Statement from Catherine Bailey, Deputy Director of the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF), which leads the Campaign for Paid Family Leave:

“As Chair of the Campaign for Paid Family Leave, today we applaud the House
of Representatives for passing a robust, statewide paid family and medical leave
plan that will provide economic stability when women and families need it most –
when they need to care for themselves or a loved one, or welcome a new child.
Paid leave is a critical step forward for women’s economic security, especially for
low-wage workers and women of color who are an increasing number of primary
breadwinners for their families. We are proud to join the rest of the world and
become just the eighth state (including Washington D.C.) in the U.S. to create a
system of paid leave. We urge the Governor to carry through on his promise to
voters by signing this bill and to implement paid leave in Connecticut.”
