“When my oldest son was 14 he was misdiagnosed with depression. He was treated with medication that made what we would eventually learn was bi-polar disorder almost unmanageable. It took 2 months to get an accurate diagnosis and level out his medications. During that time I was trying to balance working full time, my son’s medical needs, and caring for a younger child. It was brutal. Some days I had no choice but to bring my suffering child with me to my office so I could be with him. Some days I had to miss work and miss pay to be at the hospital, or numerous appointments. It was a difficult time for my family made more difficult by our need to keep my job and make money. It will allow families to care for their own and reduce some of the burden on them during difficult times. It will also relieve the burden of overwrought systems of care.”
